Tassies

Tassies are a southern treat. I discovered it while watching Trisha's Southern Kitchen on food network and I knew I had to try it. I used her recipe for the base but created my own filling.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup, 113 grams  unsalted butter, room temperature.
One 8 ounce cream cheese package, room temperature.
1 cup flour.

Beat the butter with the cream cheese till it is smooth. Add the flour in till fully combined. Take the dough and wrap it in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator so it is easier to handle.
Spray well a 24 cavity mini muffin tin. Divide the chilled dough into 24 balls and press each into each cavity and up the sides too.

The filling:
1 cup melted and cooled chocolate.
1 cup homemade caramel
1 egg.
1/2 cup pecans or walnuts

Whisk the egg and the chocolate together and blend in the caramel. Place some nuts at the bottom of the cup pour in the filling almost to the top but not completely( about a teaspoon of filling). Preheat oven at 325 degrees and bake for  25- 30 mins.

What I learnt when making these:
That I like mini treats, things that you can just pop in your mouth and go about your business. I would make them again and maybe top with a dollop of caramel for richer treat.
